Outside unit wont shut off please help!!!
Hello,
My outdoor ac unit will not shut off. on the thermostat when i change it too "system off" only the inside unit turns off, the outside unit stays on. i have checked the contactor on the outdoor unit and it is not stuck. this is a new outdoor unit and a new indoor ac control board. here is what i have done
Replaced Thermostat
checked contactor
removed contactor and cleaned contacts
replaced indoor control board
moved thermostat wires and tried different combinations
it will blow cold when i keep the system on cool and the fan on. currently that is what we are doing to keep the house cool, we are just unplugging it ever 3-4 hours and letting it rest.
please help!!

If you disconnect one or both of the control wires (24VAC) where they come into the outside unit, does the outside unit turn off? This will tell you whether the problem lies inside the house or in the outside unit. If you disconnect the control signal wires where they come into the outside unit and it turns off, the problem is somewhere inside the house (something is always sending 24VAC to the outside unit). Conversely, if the outside unit continues to run with the control wires disconnected, the problem lies in the outside unit.

Are you sure that you wired the new control board correctly? Was it an exact replacement, or was it slightly different from the original board? Do you have a circuit diagram of the indoor system?

Welcome to the forums!! To better assist, can you post the model number of your inside and outside units?
How is the thermostat currently wired at the thermostat and at the control board? Which wires are going to the outside unit?
You should have two wires going to the outside unit contactor and they should be connected to C and Y at the control board. Once we get the model numbers we can figure out the correct wiring.

R is 24vac and B is common. If you use those terminals the condensor will never shut off.
You should be using common and Y for the condensor.

Currently the outdoor two wires are connected to R and B, b is common in my unit
Remove R wire from condenser. As stated previously, you need to have a wire from Y terminal and a wire from common terminal (B) going to the condenser. Make sure you have two wires on (Y) at the control board; one from Y at the thermostat and the one going to the condenser.
Having B as a common, you probably have a Trane or American Standard unit. Do you have a wire connected to the thermostat coming from B at the control board? If so, the B wire from the control board should be connected to C at the thermostat.

It sounds like you have an issue with the other wires connected to the thermostat and/or control board or you blew the fuse on the control board. If you did not turn off power to the unit before switching wires it is probably the fuse on the control board. Turn off power to the unit and look for an automotive type fuse (probably purple or amber colored) to see if it blew. If so, you will have to replace that fuse to restore operation.

I doubt it's a fuse or the blower wouldn't work.

I doubt it's a fuse or the blower wouldn't work.

Were it me , I would disconnect the tstat wires and the 2 wires going to the condenser , ( the indoor unit ) .
With a volt meter , I would measure voltage from R to B ( common ) . 24 VAC ?
If so , I would jumper from R to G . Does the fan come on ?
If so , move the jumper to R to W . Does heat come on ?
Re-install the 2 wires going to the condenser , Y and B ( common ) .
Now , move the jumper from R to Y . Does the condenser unit come on ?
Let us know your results .
