Help needed for systems
I live in Houston. We have a house with 2800 sq ft. 2 air in systems, one upstairs one down. Apparently one of the furnaces is on its way out and the units are generally around 13 years old.
We have looked into replacing the entire 2 systems with 3.5 and 3 ton 16 units, and furnaces and replacement other parts that I don't understand. Quote price about $18,000.
Am I unrealistic, but that seems really expensive given the cost of the actual parts. I'm trying to understand if it is reasonable and if so how I can not replace everything but do in stages if possible. Main issue is nothing is actually 'broken' so I feel pretty dumb.
Any perspective is appreciated

Welcome to the forums.
First things first..... get a second opinion and prices.
If you are still confused.... get another opinion and price.
Work one on one with the company. Don't tell them what brand or what another company is specifying. Tell them what you are looking for. Ask them if your present equipment is shot.
A 13 year old furnace should not be on it's way out unless it has some kind of major defect. There certainly shouldn't be any reason why they would both need to be changed now.
