Patio Project idea

Getting the patio ready for summer and I've got a rather nifty idea. I have a small/medium window ac unit that I got for free. My idea would to make an apparatus of some sort and place it outside and blow cool air on us while were relaxing in our chairs. Minus evap drainage, I don't see any design flaws. I'm a mechanic with Hoosier tendencies. My wife says go ahead and try! But is it in vain?

Part of the function of an AC, is to remove the hot air which won't work very well outside. At one time I rented an apartment on a canal. I would put my chair on the patio to enjoy the weather & watch the boats. On a real hot day, I would run an extension cord outside, for a fan. Skip the AC & use a fan. That's all you need.

I'm not looking to build up condensation on the floor. Just a 20° drop. Basically a über floor fan

If you use an AC outside, the compressor will never stop running, as it would if it were inside. That means that it will raise your electric bill quite high. Try it if you want but a fan is all you need.

An air conditioner outside as stated will not cycle and when they don't cycle, the cooling coils freeze up and then all you are doing is running a very inefficient fan.

I must be mistaken. An ac system would only freeze if either it is low on refrigerant or has impeded airflow. Neither of which I have or will have. The idea is to drag this outside and watch the ballgame for a few hours with a cool breeze. So even if running constantly don't think it would freeze up in such a limited time. I'm going to try it before I go and build something extravagant. But my 2nd plan is a 3 speed furnace blower as a mega anti mosquito fan lol. MDF enclosure with wheels. Actually building it first for all the outdoor work projects I'll have thus summer

Let me guess, your third plan is a refrigeration unit from a Boars Head meat delivery truck?

You know it! Maybe run 100% alcohol chilled below freezing into the chairs themselves.

Now you're 'cooking with gas' as my uncle used to say.
