A/C compressor doesn't stay running on hot days.

My AC system runs fine morning, evenings & nights. During the hot hours of the day(noon to 6) is when the compressor does not want to seem to run. It turns on for maybe a minute and then shuts off with a hiss noise similar to a tractor trailor releasing its air brakes just not that loud. while the compressor is trying to run the air handler continues to circulate air never shutting off. I usually just switch the thermostat to off let the system rest for about an hour and then turn it to cool & it seems to then run fine. any suggestions in the right direction would be great

If the outdoor fan is running when this occurs, verify that it is discharging air from the top of the condenser and rinse the coil until the water is clear as it leaves the other side.

If the fan isn't running when this occurs, replace the run cap.

the fan is discharging air from the top but i will clean the coils & remove what little debris is in the inside and see if it solves the problem. If that does not work any other suggestions

Check the air flow when the system is running normally to when it is not. Most likely you'll find less and much hotter airflow when it's not operating normally. Your system may be experiencing a defective or dying fan motor.
