Replacing older York outdoor unit

Hi, I am an avid DIY'er. The compressor on my older (14 years) York split unit burnt out. The Model # is E1RA030S06D. Rather than replace the compressor I am considering replacing the entire outside unit. There is a great deal on a Goodman Air Conditioner GSC130301. My understanding is that while both units are 2.5 ton, the seer rating on the Goodman is 13 versus the 10 on the York. There are conflicting reports on replacing with a higher seer rating on the pump with the biggest being loss of efficiency.

Question 1: Am i correct in replacing the entire unit versus just the compressor? The price difference is about $200.
Question 2: Thoughts on replacing with higher seer rating
Question 3: Anything else I should keep in mind

P.S. The actual work on the R22 is going to be done by a certified tech.

1. You are correct, better replace the whole unit.
2. You have an old coil, so higher or lower condenser seer is not important. but I don't think you can get anything less than 13.
3. Just make sure the AC tech charge it up with at least 16 degrees Delta-T.

Thanks

I really appreciate your feedback. Ordered the Goodman and 10 lbs of R22. Hoping that is enough. It is an attic unit so have about 40+ feet of tubing to the coil.
