Ac compressor wont turn off

My ac compressor keeps on running even if the t stat is set to off or cooled enough and the fan shuts off. The only way to shut it off is pull the t start or if i set it on to heat and let the heater kick in then it would turn off.

I replaced my tstat not long ago and its beem like this since. Could wirimg cause this or pretty much the contractor is the culprit?

Just tested again, turning on the heat doesnt shut it off this time.

Is there such thing as a setting in the tstat the keeps the compressor running for a little bit before it turn off?

You mean remove the thermostat ?

If you pull the thermostat off and the condenser is still running then you most likely have a defective contactor in the outside unit.

To add to what PJmax said, if the outside unit does turn off when you remove the thermostat, and the thermostat is relatively new (assuming it's good), then you may have a wiring problem (you may not have wired up the new thermostat correctly).

I trace the issue down to a tstat issue. I tracr my wire down discovered that got the contractor wire and furnace wire crossed. I switch the wire and now learned that my w wire is stuck at always on. So i disconnected it and just using the ac for now.
