I need to know if this is the Timer
I bought a used box fan from a yard sale. The fan keeps flipping on and off because there is a timer builtin. Well I removed this component and the fan still works great. My question: Is this the timer?

Likely so...but then I've never seen a box fan with a timer? If it works constantly, then you must have amputated the right thing.

That's a Tower rotary switch. That switch was probably used to select fan speeds.

Thanks for the info on that. Well after removing that rotary switch, I connected the fan's electrical mains wire to a black and red wire that went back to the fan's motor. For a brief second or two the fan worked but then disaster struck and the fan's motor capacitor or something burned out. After that I just screwed the grill back on the box and put the fan aside for a while. Anyway I can fix the damage to the fan and still get it to work?

It might be ok.... or the windings are burned now.
What colors come from the motor ?
Is there just one capacitor ? What size is it ? 5 ufd, 6.5 ufd, ?

I don't understand...you said you removed the part and the fan worked great. What else did you do after removing the part? How did it work if no wires were connected?
