mini split not keeping room cool
Needing advice....I just had a klimaire mini split installed.room is 19x16 ft.it's a barn that was converted into an apartment. tin roof and sides. solid 1x4 walls and floor, then paneling and with insulation Mini split is 12k .room is not staying cool. Room has insulation. Should a12k be keeping this room cool? Not sure what other info you need...it's installed. By measurements that came with it.should I call someone else to come check it..besides the guy that installed it? Or do you feel it's working the way it should...? Outside air. In 90s I can set it on 70 and it stays about 75/80 degrees...gets as hi as 87...I have now put an 8k window unit in andi will put it on 70 and it cools it to 70 I have now turned split of, and 8k window unit is keeping it at 71 which is what I have it set on

It could be the tin roofing & siding that's limiting the ability, of the unit. You didn't say where you are but if you are in a place like Texas, it could be more, of a problem.

So a 12 K BTU mini-split is not keeping the room cool but, by itself, an 8 K window unit is able to do so?

Yes.I understand about the tin.but the window unit keeps it very cool at a constant 72 if that's what I have it on..if I turn the window unit off and have ms only on it warms up to 78/80 rapidly. ms is on 64

I guess that your answer is to use the window unit. I don't know what to tell you about the money that may have been wasted, on the mini split. You might call the company to get an answer.

That's a really good question. Part of AC is removing the hot air. It could be that the window unit is removing the hot air at a better rate. That's just a guess.

The guy that installed it has checked it several times...says it's the tin. but that just doesn't make sense to me because of the wu keeping up. He keeps messing with the Freon though. how sensitive it to the amount of Freon that is in it? It had 125 originally.he said he bumped it to 145/150. I was told they are Very sensitive...all I know is I spent a lot of money (for me) on it and am hoping to figure out why it's not cooling...he called and talked to Tec support.but all he tells. me is it's the tin...

I agree with your theory that the window unit is working & that eliminates the tin as the problem. As I said before, air conditioning has to remove the hot air first & the window unit maybe better at that. The only other thing that I can think of is the position of the window unit is probably lower than the split. Since hot air rises, the split maybe having a hard time.

I've noticed as a rule that the split units do not move a lot of air. I've found that the higher they are mounted the better they work since the cold air gets thrown further.

What is the delta-T? A mini Split should be around 19-20. Did you said air flow is weak ? that may be your problem. I installed one last year (Mitsibishi 12000), the fan is strong, I can feel the cold air from 10 feet away.

a DUCTLESS UNIT SHOULD HAVE MORE AIRFLOW THAN A WINDOW UNIT. Messing with the charge is an issue. This should have been weighed in so it would be exact. Hard to charge these by pressure because of the ramping up and down of compressor and fan.
