Covering a/c vents

I'm just wondering... What's the best thing to use to cover the central a/c registers for the winter? Especially, the return vent which is in ceiling. Thanks.

Here we just close the vents. If the return takes a filter, wrap in a garbage bag. RV antifreeze in condensate piping if need be.

Some use the magnetic rubber sheets but be sure the grill is sealed to the drywall and duct. But yes, cover them as there have been many that accumulate gallons of nasty condensation.

Do you mean wrap the filter in a garbage bag?

What's your heat source? Unless you have something other than forced air, covering cold air returns is generally a bad idea. As for the vents, I just close them with the lever on the vent which controls the louvers behind it.

Yes. if it's a/c only a clean garbage bag taped tight so it fits in does the trick.

If you have duct work because of AC, you might want to leave the vents uncovered and just run the fan to help distribute the heat better... Unless you're only trying to heat parts of your home...
