A/C fan noise

My 22-year old Trane heat pump system is starting to make noise. The fan bearings are chirping/squeaking when it runs. Can these bearings be greased or is it time to replace the fan?

Thanks in advance,
Brad

Brad, I assume you mean the condenser fan on top of the outside unit? None of the newer systems have oiling ports on the fan motors. While it's unlikely that yours does, it's old enough that it may have some. I would suggest that you remove the fan motor assembly and look to see if there are any oiling ports. While you have the motor out, take a picture (or write down the information) of the sticker on the motor that gives the pertinent information on the motor (make, model #, RPM, HP, Amps). You're likely going to need to purchase a replacement motor, and you'll need this information to match up a replacement.
