R22 replacement
I have a carrier 3 ton unit for my home. It's low on refrigerant. The tech said that R22 is expensive...around $500 for a 30lb tank of it. Want me to consider getting a new system. I read that RS-44 is a replacement for the R22. Can't he just fix the coil and add RS-44 along with whatever R22 is left in there instead of me having to get a new system?
Thank,
Joe

Due to board constraints we can only offer limited help when it comes to refrigerants, charging methods and sealed system repairs.

If it is more than 10 years old I would seriously consider replacement if you are planning on staying in your home. What is the total that your guy has quoted you repairing the leak and refilling with R22 alternate? How much is his quote for replacement?
