Strange A/C noise
Good morning,
My tenants told be recently the AC handler began making a strange sound and it doesn't feel like it's cooling as well as it should. I have attached a video of the noise it's making. Anyone know what the issue could be?
Thank you!

And just to add, I just spoke with them and the AC is keeping cool. It just makes that very loud sound whenever it is working. They said they can hear it from downstairs and the handler is upstairs.

The video is inconclusive. I don't hear any problem sounds in it.
If the system is making noise then you need to look at the blower section. Make sure there's nothing stuck in the blower wheel. If belt driven..... check the belt.
How's the filter ? Been changed recently ?

I'm sorry for the late response, and I appreciate you helping. I went to the house and opened up the A/C unit. I found out the following:
The fan and motor spin fine when only the fan is on on the thermostat. As soon as the cooling engages, the fan/motor starts rattling and slows down. Attached is a better video that will show what I'm talking about:

Do you know what the issue is, and why does it only happen when cooling? Is it something I could fix myself or should I hire a professional

I need you to post the full model number for the air handler.
That looks to be an ECM (electronic motor) and are usually difficult to service.

I'm at work now and can't get that currently, but I'll get it as soon as I can. It should be under warranty since it's only 3 years old right? And do you have any idea how much that would cost to fix if that was the issue?
Thank you again.
Thank you again.

If it is an ECM motor (and I agree with Pete that it looks like it probably is), you had better hope that it's covered under warranty. The motor is approximately $1000 (just the motor, no labor). I have an ECM motor in my furnace and it failed after 5 years. Fortunately, I have a 10 year warranty on the furnace, so all it cost me was the service call for the technician to come out and replace it.
