Nest Thermostat not lighting up (newbie in Florida)

I need some help hooking up my Nest Thermostat. Any help someone can offer me is sincerely appreciated. I'll buy you a beer if your advice succeeds.

Related pictures and manual:

I'm not a total idiot, but generally have never excelled at electrician-related work. I tried to hook up the Nest cross-referencing the manual for the old thermostat and the instructions and labels of the Nest. I hooked it up like so:

Orange wire to Y1
Green wire to Y2
Yellow wire to Rc
White wire to W1
Red wire to W2
Brown wire to C

Turned the breaker back on, and the Nest doesn't power up. (I know the Nest is functional as I hooked it up to USB (auxiliary power) and it powered on fine. I also tried hooking the yellow wire to Rh and it made no difference. I reverted everything in a freak-out and put the old thermostat back on and wired it up, and it works fine still. I'm 90% sure I have a heat pump.

So the bottom line is I have a cool new early-Christmas present that I'm too ignorant to hook up. What color wires do I need to hook up to which ports of the Nest?

Welcome to the forums.

That wiring is incorrect. You cannot arbitrarily connect the wires.

The picture of the old stat wiring is nice but you cut the letters off ???
The base should be labeled with the connection letters.

These colors should be correct and work for you.
Power should be off when replacing thermostat.

Red -------> Rc
Green -----> G
Yellow ----> Y1
White ----> W2/AUX
Orange ---> O/B (program stat for O operation)
Brown ----> C

You have a heat pump system with back up electric coils. The stat needs to be told that.

Pete! You're right! I didn't even notice the labels on the old base (white-on-white lettering). Now it's working fine. Thank you!
