I am building a small air conditioner using a 24v DC compressor. I pressure tested the system, vacuumed it out, and charged it with plenty of freon. When I turned on the compressor, it ran for about 5 minutes, and then shut off and started squealing, making a high-pitched loud noise. I turned it off and tried it 10 minutes later and it did the same thing. The system works before the compressor shuts off.
Does anyone know what causes a squeaky compressor? Could it possibly be liquid refrigerant in the suction line? Is this a sign that I need more oil in my system?
I have no idea how to add or remove oil from a small compressor, and it would be extremely difficult to disassemble the copper lines, as they are soldered on. If the issue is oil, could I add some without de-soldering the unit?
Thanks
- sorry for the long question.
