HVAC Garage Return Box Sag
I'm installing a new air handler in a garage that has a slightly sagging return box under the existing upflow air handler. It's sagged about 3/4" and it's bad enough that you cannot get a filter in or out of the unit.
What I'm thinking of doing to correct this is after I get the old air handler removed, putting down some floor leveler and then cutting a piece of 5/8" ply to go under the new air handler. Cut a new return opening in the ply to fit the new handler, silicone caulk and tin flange the opening and it should be good.
Anybody else run into this issue?
