Evening guys, wonder if I might get a hand with a fan replacement problem I'm having on a portable a/c unit. Background....I have a edgestar ap14000hs portable a/c unit that recently tried to fire up after 7 years of no use. Initially it fired up and would cool room off 1-2 degrees and then kick off, after 10 minutes wash/rinse/repeat. After a couple cycles of this I investigated a little further and noticed the exhaust fan, was not turning, so I tried to manually spin it, thinking the capacitor was shot or fan seized, but the motor would freely turn but still not kick on. I took the unit apart, there is no wire diagram in the unit anywhere. It has a couple capacitors in it for exhaust and fan out, and according to their specs, looked like they were good on my meter. I put my ohmeter on the fan, which has 5 wires coming out of it. Two go to the capacitor, two go to circuit board and one went to a terminal on side of fan housing. I didn't really see an open in any of the windings so I figured fan probably good. I ordered the circuit board since it has a number of small capacitors and small relays, figuring it might be bad. Replaced it, still same problem. I went ahead and ordered the exhaust fan, but the problem I'm having now is, the original fan had 5 wires, the new fan has 4 wires. I called edgestar and after a couple phone calls they pretty much told me I'd have to take it to a repair center if I couldn't figure out how to wire it. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!! If it was plug and play, matched the old fan wire colors and number of wires, it would be no sweat but it doesn't. They said that I got the direct replacement for my unit and that the wire omitted was probably a low/hi speed wire, where as the new fan is one speed only. I can buy that, but I don't know for sure which wires to put to capacitor and which wires to circuit board. Anybody have any advice what to look for? The old motor was on the left with 5 wires, and the new one is on the right with 4 wires, plus colors don't match. Thanks much for any help. I have 2 floors and 2 separate AC units. First floor has a Goodman compressor manufactured in 2012 3.5 tons and the coil and furnace is Lennox brand made in 1996. I called an AC guy because it started blowing hot air not cool air like it supposed to. He checks the compressor and tells me it is leaking and he placed 3lbs of Freon. He told me it is not possible to change the coil, it is too old and the new ones can not be installed there etc etc. So he told me to pay like $100 every year for Freon and be done with it yesterday, AC stopped working. Called another AC guy he checks out and finds that thermostat wire were touching each other or something like that and I went to walmart and bought a new thermostat he installed it, now it is working I showed the coil to this new AC guy and he said he can replace it with Trane coil for $1,500. Then he said I better be changing furnace and coil together but dis not tell me the price on both yet. Appearantly he does not have a problem with size or dimensions and says trane coil will fit in there. What do you guys think?
