AC not working, no click at contactor fan runs

Thermostat will start the system and fan runs, but there is no click at the compressor and of course nothing is happening there. Rather than open the compressor end of things, I went to the FAU and found the terminal block where the low voltage lines start from. I used DVM to check for voltage across those two wires and there is nothing. I taped the door interlock switch down, so fan was running while I did this. I didnt note the letters on the screws, but one shares a wire with the bundle coming from thermostat. Im guessing that was ground. I tried other combos of terminals and couldnt find voltage anywhere. Im guessing this is issue within FAU and not the contactor/capacitor. Actually, one of those was changed out last year.

Any ideas on how to trouble shoot? Unit is under home warranty but of course we are having a heatwave on a weekend so I'ld like to get it going if I can.

Most likely the wire you are talking about is not the common but the cooling signal to the AC. What is the model number on the FAU ?

Can't find that model number.

A "no click" from the condensor is not a capacitor issue.

There should always be 24vac on R and C
24vac on C and Gc when in cooling.
24vac on C and Y when in cooling.

Most thermostats have a five minute delay in supplying 24vac to Y.

Thanks Pete. I check it direct at transformer secondary and nothing. Have replaced trans but before I did I disconnect wires to compressor and check impedance. Only 2 ohms. Guy at shop where I got xfrmr said I should expect 16-20. Sounds like I have a short and I'll just blow new xfrmr if I hook up Y and C. We did have a rodent problem

When you change transformer again..... install a 3A fuse in line with one secondary lead.
It will blow instead of the transformer.

An ATC fuseholder is perfect. Available from many places including auto parts stores.
