Hello people- I have a pretty important question-- I am having someone give us estimates on ductless A/C for our basement. Now someone told me that since the compressor will be higher than the placement of the unit- I need to make sure to ask the installer how and where the water(condensation) drips. Since water does not travel up- how does this work- eswpecially since where the unit will be placed - is where my backyard patio bricks are. But the compressor will be placed around the bend on the other side of the houe out of sight. Any advie of what I need to say to this installer?? Thank you.

 

The condensate water has nothing to do with the placement of the outdoor unit.
The height above the evaporator is a refrigeration piping concern and will allowed for by the installer.

The condensate will drip from the indoor portion and normally passes through an above grade wall when installed conventionally.
When there is no outside wall the drain will be directed to below the indoor unit, either to a nearby drain if available or pumped up to a drain by a small pump.
Some systems use a pump that can be installed inside of the untit, others by a pump in a small tank on a wall beneath the inside unit.

Ask the installer how he will handle it.

 

thank u-- like I said the indoor unit will be a little below ground level and the compressor on ground level a few feet away- so I guess it will have to be pumped so that the water goes where it should go-- I am sure this is not the first basement unit that these places have installed and they know what needs to be done.
Also if someone could help us- this man had other items checked on a previous estimate that before we ask him I would like a little insight on- if you would---

we looked over an old proposal
and these are the boxes checked--it says customer responsible for any costs incurred to make system code compliant if necessary??- what does this mean- and why would it not be code compliant??
next-- it says install new refrigeration,condensation lines?? is that what we were talking about above about the condensate pump -or if not what does this mean that he put down??and then it has checked install new condenser pad?/- is that what the outside compressor sits on?? and he then has checked-Install AC whip,disconnect box(what on earth is that??) and lastly he has install slimduct over lin e set-- is that the covering of the wire that is seen on the outside of the house?? Any other questions I need to ask this gentleman??

 

Not sure why that's in there. You should be getting an entire turnkey system.... all inclusive. The only thing I can think of is that he mentions installing a disconnect which is mounted on the outside of the house for disconnecting power for servicing. The line that connects that to the condensor is the whip. It's a piece of flex tubing with wires pre-installed.

That disconnect needs to be connected to the house electrical panel with a new breaker. It's possible he doesn't run that cable to the panel. That should be confirmed as it may require an electrician.

The condensor pad can be a fiberglass or cement type base. It will be set level and the condensor will sit on it.

There are two refrigerant lines that get run together. Many times the pumped condensate line and interconnecting wiring are run with those lines and then covered by a neat looking snap over cover. It usually looks like a piece of downspout material.

Since you are concerned about the condensate.... ask him if the A/C has it's own internal pump. If not there may be a small tank-like box mounted below it that stores and pumps the water up. You may also have some type of drain... like a floor drain or sink where the condensate could be allowed to drain to.

 

hello again nice people--- I have a good quote from someone BUT he is giving me 2 quotes-- One on a FUJITSU system and the other on a TRANE ductless system?? Not sure which is the better of two?? He said customer service is NO GOOD on Fujitsu?? and he said the customer service for TRANE is GOOD. But where does that leave us- we just want a well made system- and I really wanted Mitsubishi but he does not deal with them and the other company that quoted us on a Mitsubishi system was quite a lot more expensive. So again I ask you nice people- what would you do if you were in my shoes
by the way the Fujitsu is about $215 more in price than the Trane system in his quote. I anxiously await your reply.-

 

I guess what I am asking - if this was your home- what would you rather have in your home- Fujitsu or Trane in the setup I am looking for. Thanks

 

Between those two companies I would choose Trane.

 

I don't think Trane is actually Trane. I think Gree makes their ductless equipment. Tranes larger ductless and VRF equipment is Samsung. Only difference is the brand stickers on the cabinet.
Fugitsu isn't very popular around here, I don't see much of their equipment
