A/C help!
So my central ac hasn't been working right iv had to kick start the fan so I figured it's the compacitor. Purchased a new one, but now it starts then stops after about 10 minutes or so. Now I'm thinking it's the wireing or the campacitor I got isn'the right one thoughts?

Did you get the same value capacitor as the old one? If so (assuming the capacitor isn't bad), it should work, unless the fan motor is bad. Was it a single or dual capacitor (2 terminals or 3)? If only 2 terminals (single capacitor), there's no way of wiring it incorrectly. If it's a dual capacitor, it is possible to wire it incorrectly. The Herm terminal connects to the compressor, while the Fan terminal connects to the condenser fan.

I bought the same exact compacitor. What it does is, it starts up fine but the air coming from the top of the unit isn't hot like it usually is. It will run for about twenty min and stop, the. I can't start again for awhile.

That would be a dual capacitor. It's used for the compressor and the fan.
If it has the same values as the old one and if you're sure you wired it exactly like the old one.... you have a compressor issue.

If the compressor is bad, that will be very expensive. However, let's not jump to any conclusions just yet. Before you changed the capacitor, did you take a picture of the old capacitor & wiring? As I mentioned previously, the Herm terminal should connect to the compressor, while the Fan terminal should connect to the condenser fan. Also, there likely is a wiring diagram on the inside of cover of the outside unit. If you can read a schematic, you can verify that it's wired correctly.

It should wire up the same as the old capacitor. However, it's possible that the Herm & Fan terminals could be reversed on the new capacitor compared to the old one. That's why I suggested checking that the wire from the Herm terminal goes to the compressor and the Fan terminal connects to the fan. The terminals should be labeled.

Posting pictures..... http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
If it won't work or is a large picture from a phone....let me know and I'll tell you where to send it.
