wall unit air conditioner fan only blows if push started
I have a 220 wall Frigidaire ac for a long time its been running and not turned off only the temp or fan speed adjusted.
Today i turned it off for about an hour when i turned it back on it just lit up like normal and hummed, no fan blowing,
My wife suggested a vine grew thru the outside part and there were a couple small ones but seemed only at the outer part of the casing so i pulled them out,
I tried turning it on but it seemed it it was thinking about blowing for a second but went back to just a hum,
So i removed the front cover and cleaned some dust chunks out and reached in and turned fan by hand it seemed to feel fine only the resistance the motor,
So i try power again still humming so i give the fan a slight push and it kicks off, all speeds work and ac gets cold,
Turn it off then back on and just the hum, if i push the fan there it goes,
I cleaned the fan which had dust and crud in the fins, but still it will only kick in spinning if i help it with a push,
I left it running and put the front back on
Its running and cooling fine at the moment,
So, is it more likely that the fan motor is going out or there is some vine or debris i missed dragging it from the outer side?
Thanks for any guesses or opinions
Cheers

The normal maintenance routine is to remove the unit from the wall on a regular basis to clean and service it.
The most likely possibility of what may be causing your problem is worn fan bearings or a bad capacitor.
If you check it is likely the fan bearings.
Remove the unit and see if you can detect and side to side movement in the motor shaft.

Is 220 the model number or were you trying to tell us that it's powered by 240 VAC? Please post the model number of your AC so some of our pro's can look for a wiring diagram.

I thought double 110 was 220,
Okay 240 volt then,
I looked all over no part number i can find yet, do you know where they hide it?
Ran all night running now, a bad bearing? Wouldn't that make a sound
We bought the fixer upper b&b about 3 years ago, the ac was mounted in the wall never used as they never ran the power to it, its digital but i cant say how old it is

If the fan turned by hand pretty easily my guess would be that it's not the bearing and you have a bad start capacitor. Unfortunately window AC's are usually considered not-serviceable and they expect you to get a new one when something goes wrong. If you can't find the model number can you open it up and take good pictures of the electronics and anything that looks like a little can? Here's how to post pictures.

I might add that a majority of this type of fan motor is a sleeve bearing, either "permanently lubricated" or has oil ports.
It is quite common that when the bearings wear, the rotor (spinning part) is not in perfect alignment with the stator (coils) and can not start.
By spinning the fan blade by hand the stator will center until the next time it tries to restart.
By the time this occurs there is enough wear that side to side movement can be felt in the shaft.
