HELP! It is going to be hotter than - well, you know - the next few days into next week and I won't be home and have animals. I went to Home Depot to purchase a timer for my window air conditioner, only to be told, when I asked where timers were and what I was going to be using it for, that a timer wouldn't work on my A/C because when the cooling turns OFF, I would have to PHYSICALLY BE THERE to turn it back on - a timer wouldn't turn it back on? I was confused - and still am. The A/C has it's own timer but it's just to set hours of running in ONE cycle, not for days. If I leave the unit ON, just ON - not blowing cool air - and plug it into a timer that plugs into the wall - why would a timer not work? He again tried to explain that once the cooling "shuts off", I would still have to BE THERE to turn it back on myself.....?? Am I missing something? I asked, then why does a timer work for lamps? They are in the ON position and plugged into a timer....?

Hey DIYers. My wife and I have a 2 story house in SW Michigan. The heat is a forced hot water boiler system. Not ductwork for A/C. Now the mail floor has a 'split-mini' system at one end of the house that does a pretty good job on the main floor. Upstairs is where we have our issues. Upstairs we have 5 bedrooms, a full bath and a large walk-in closet off of the hall way. Only one room even has a ceiling fan. We have priced A/C systems - way out of our range. We have talked about a whole house fan, but even that is going to be further down the list for us. As a 'band-aid', my wife purchased a portable air conditioner off of someone on Craigslist. As the heat index is hitting triple digits this weekend, I'm am looking to get this thing running. Here are my questions: 1. The only markings I can find are that this is a "Professional Series" brand and a model PS78115. I have had no luck tracking down a manual for this product, nor can I find info on the brand. Anyone know who makes these? 2. Part of why I want the manual is because I have an idea for how to vent it and I want to make sure imI not doing something too crazy. The typical method is to vent it out a window, and I know how to rig that up. The down side is that this tank has to sit in one of the kids bedrooms which I don't think will be terribly efficient. What I would like to do is vent it thru the ceiling and into the attic space e above. My though was to put it just inside the door of the hall closet and then wheel it into the door way when we use it. We only anticipate using int a few weeks a year, and probably only in the evening to make it bearable to sleep. Is this crazy? I do have a concern about condensation in that exhaust duct. Our roof has a ridge vent. Would this unit put out more moisture than a bathroom vent fan? Thanks for any insight or advice you can offer. [ATTACH]94933[/ATTACH]
