Transport window A/C on its side?

I picked up an old window A/C to bring to a relative's house. This is a Whirlpool ac1352xt, a heavy beast that's 26" wide, 31" deep, and 19" high.

I'm thinking it will fit better in my vehicle if i can rest it on its 19" high side. I'm recalling you can't ship a refrigerator on its side, tho- is there a similar caution for a window AC unit?

Thanks, and Happy 4th!

There are two problems....
1) the compressor is fastened to be transported bottom down so use caution when tipping it on its side.
2) some of the oil can drain out of the compressor and into the lines. Usually allowing the unit to sit normally for 24 hours before powering up takes care of that.

Likely ok if you do not treat the unit roughly.
The oil getting into lines is like said, not a problem.
You need to be aware that internally, most compressors sit on three suspension springs inside the can.
When you put the compressor sideways it puts undue pressure on springs that were meant for vertical forces.
Just don't drop it and you will be ok.

They say never haul a refrigerator on its side and the same reasons are valid but when I did apartment maintenance I did it more than once (minivan-no way to stand) with no problem.
