AC Service

I had a single 24000 BTU Pridiom Ductless AC unit in my house (no heat pump on this). Recently the unit has started to ice up inside along the bottom of the grill and is not near as cool as normal. I am thinking likely a refrigerant leak? I had a local company come in yesterday to try and find the leak before adding refrigerant and they wanted $745 plus tax to locate the leak, then fix the leak; refill; labour and taxes would come to around $1,800-$2k. Of course I passed on this offer, tech said he is 95% sure it has a leak in the compressor. Main question is to locate a leak on this system, is $745 seem crazy or is this about the norm, maybe he wanted to get off early as it was friday and a long weekend here in Ontario. The total install of the system 5 years ago was $2,300 so the repair costs they wanted don't make sense to me. Opinions most welcome.

He is probably right, but have you ever washed it out? That's the first thing I'd do.

No, the tech put pressure type guages on the outside fan unit and it shows litle or no refrigerant but is not positive where the leak is.
