Upgrading Thermostat

Good evening,

Would like to see if anyone is able to confirm I installed my new RTH8580ZW unit. My old unit was a RTH6350.

I was able to open my air handler and verify the wires leading to the thermostat. Two things I noticed, the Y1 and Y2 are bridged at the air handler for the old unit. Should that remain?

The old unit did not have a C wire (it was taped off) so I got that ready and connected it to the new unit along with all the other wires. After 1hr of checking, I powered up the unit and only received hot air. After another 40 minutes of checking all the setting on the new unit, setting system menu 0170 to #7 and 0190 to #0, the unit still would only produce hot air. I pulled out my meter and found the R to O was zero, checked the connection and now have cold air.

Inside the handler I have a flashing C2 code. High stage cool - Legacy mode only. Is this correct?

I have attached three images, one from the old thermostat, one from the new and the wire block on the handler. Could someone take a look and see if I have everything correct? Thanks a bunch up front.

Advanced settings.....
170 -- 7
180 -- 1
190 -- 0

Your wiring is correct.
An extra wire inside the stat cable would be needed to run the condenser in two stage mode.

Good morning,

Thanks for the quick reply. There is a spare wire in stat run. This would bring up two questions, the benefit and where the connections would go.

Thanks again for your help and support.

Your new wire would go to......
Y2 on the stat.
Y2 on the control board after removing the Y1 - Y2 jumper.
Y2 outside at the condenser board.
I'm not sure if there is something that needs to be changed out at the condenser. If there is a Y1-Y2 jumper..... it gets removed. If not..... there may be a dip switch setting on the board.

Have we determined that the heat pump is two stage?

What is the model number of the outdoor unit?

Good evening,

Sorry it too so long to respond, I found my notices going into my spam filter.

I have a Goodman (Amana) ASZ140361BB outside. I have no idea if it is a two stage unit. Thanks for your help ad advice.
