Leaking Drain Pipe
This is a York system approx 20 years old. For the 1st time ever, the drain pipe that runs to the sump pump began to leak at the HVAC unit, just where the outlet pipe connects to the drain pipe. The drain pipe is PVC and is connected to the drain pipe in the unit which is copper. Per the HVAC repair guy, this set-up is incorrect. The entire run should be copper. They can do for about $200. He also told me that if I seal the connection with plumber's putty, that should do the trick.
I tried plumber's putty, but the leak is still there although much better. (Drain pipe was clogged too but is now unclogged.)
Any ideas on how to seal this?
Thanks-

Hard to say. Is it leaking from the threads where the pvc threads into the copper? I would cut the pvc pipe, unscrew the pvc fitting, put pipe dope on the threads and screw it back together. Then glue a pvc coupler on where you cut the pipe.

It does not screw in to the copper at all. Both are smooth and the PVC just slides onto the copper. The fit is very tight so hard to figure out why it is leaking.

That explains why it's leaking then. If it's not pipe threads that's why he said it should all be sweated copper. The alternative would be to sweat on an npt (threaded) pipe fitting onto the existing copper... screw on an npt pvc fitting, then glue your pvc pipe into that.

Yes but you will need to clean the end of the existing copper very well. It's possibly been gooped up with some sort of glue and you will need to get down to bright clean copper.
