Surge wattage unusually high

So I looked at my real time home energy usage monitor (eyedro), and I noticed my central air unit has suddenly started to use about 12,000 more watts while starting, which is now about 23k total. then dips back down to about 5k while running, which is normal. Any idea what could cause this?

Welcome to the forums.

Does it sound like the compressor is starting normally ?
Could be a sign of an older system and just compressor aging.
Could be a start/run capacitor going bad.

Remember.... when an A/C system starts up.... it's the compressor, the condenser fan and the blower all starting at the same time.

The place was built in 2012.... It's an Amana which from what I understand is a goodman unit.

I would check all wiring connections to make sure they are tight, check the condition of the starting relay, contactor or starter, have a hard start kit installed which may reduce the starting wattage, and have the system serviced by a competent service company.
