Return air problem

Hi All, a neighbor has a hot air system, the open basement is supplied by a dampened zone on its on Tstat, the problem is when this zone is calling it creates a positive pressure in the basement and air rushes up the stairs into the living space, how would one control the return air in the basement without effect the living space?

I was thinking of that , but how would that effect the upstairs when only that zone was on?

Do you have a door on the stairs? You can't return any air if no air is being supplied.

That may make sense, if the door at the top of the stairs remains closed then only the downstairs return should work.
Good, I will pass that along.
