One AC, for 2 rooms

Here's the thing, I have an apartment and I want to cool two rooms (the rooms share a wall) at a time but I only have enough money to buy one air conditioner, and that's what a guy said it was possible to be done:
Buy an AC with enough power for both rooms, and put an wall exhaust fan like this one: https://images.homedepot-static.com/...q1-64_1000.jpg
As in, the air conditioner in the wall, and the exhaust fan just next to it, so the cool air goes from the AC room to the other room.

I wonder if someone ever did that and if that actually works.

Way back when my parents cooled a five room house with an 18000 BTU window AC placed high in the wall. of course at times we had to cool the room it was in almost too cold. Two rooms should be easy if the AC is large enough.

 

Don't forget that if you are blowing air into the adjacent room you have to have a path for air to get back to the first room. This can be a simple opening (hole) in the wall or open doors.

 

The landlord is okay with punching holes in the walls?
As PD says. if open doors don't do the trick, You'll need to circulate between the rooms. I.e. one to push cold air in and one to pull warm air out. Cold air is heavier than warm,

 

My son cooled a 2 bedroom apartment with a 15,000 BTU window A/C by running the furnace fan in the summer. The whole house was reasonably cool. he chose a window that had a cold air return close by so that return would help circulate the cool air to all the rooms.

So, summing it up, to do use one A/C to be effective for two rooms, I would have to put 2 exhaust fans, one to push cold air in, and another to pull warm air back to the room with the air conditioner.
Would it work if I put both exhaust fans close to one another, one above the other, the one beneath pushing cold air and the one above pulling warm air? Or would it be better to put them more separate, either way they would have to be both on top, because cold hair tends to drop, so the pushing cold air fan has to be on top, and warm air tends to rise, so it'll be on top, so the fan pulling warm air has to be on top also. Am I wrong?
[Edit]Just to make it clear, these rooms are not adjoining rooms, they only share one wall.
[Edit2] I read something about not needing two fans, but what if I use one fan to pull cold air in the room without the A/C and put also a transfer grille between those?

I still have to check with the landlord, but I hope it is okay, because if it works, it'll save me some money.

 

You don't need two fans. If one fan is pumping air out of the room air will naturally flow into the room as long as you provide a path (hole in the wall or open doors).

In your situation you should take in are in the cold room close to the floor. Then if you are putting in a return air hole that should be located near the ceiling.
