A/C making straining sound on startup

I live in Florida and I turn on my AC unit by lowering the thermostat many times on the hot days we have here, and usually it roars to life! but recently when I turn it on, the unit sounds like it almost is hard to start or straining itself, and then it somehow overcomes the strain and it starts up! Obviously something is going bad! would anyone know what it might be, ..possibly that low voltage switch?

Straining in the outside condenser could be a worn out contactor or a defective capacitor.
Typically the capacitor would be changed first and the contactor examined for wear.

You can post pictures of the inside of your condenser with the wiring access cover off.
Be sure to turn power off first to the condenser.
How-to-insert-pictures

There are many threads in the A/C forum that discuss capacitor replacement.
Some have pictures you can look at for reference.
