Low Voltage open Issue
I am having trouble with my HVAC low voltage wires. I had a Home Owners Warranty but the service technician and company behind him are crap. He determined after trial and error replacement that all components were working properly and system was charged. When he found out he couldn't make any money he did put in a 5 wire jumper from the Compressor unit through my basement window to the control board. He had switched around a bunch of wires, so the colors don't mean anything anymore. Only the A/C unit works heat side was disconnected. I want to get everything back to standard issue but am not sure how the wiring should be connected. I am not sure where the open wire is in the system. He said there was a splice in the wires somewhere between the thermostat and the outside unit besides the wires that go to the control board. he could access then because of a finished basement ceiling. Any help would be appreciated. It is a York system, approx. 25 yrs old.

We'll be glad to help but if you can't see what was done we can't be of much help.
Is this a heat pump system ?
If it is.... it requires five wires to the outside condenser.
The wiring should go from the thermostat to the air handler and then to the condenser.
If a break is suspected..... the wiring will need to be replaced.
Model numbers would be helpful. Pictures are even more helpful...... How-to-insert-pictures

You can test the conductors by connecting 2 at a time at one end and ringing them out with your meter.
Home warranty companies often hire the cheapest person/company they can find, talent or ability doesn’t much matter.

Not a heat pump, control panel is on furnace in basement. As far as ringing out wires, I can connect wires between control panel and thermostat but where do the two wires going to contactor in compressor unit ring to?

The diagrams were very useful but this system doesn't use the blue wire. The blue wire is just wrapped around the bundle and not used. The control panel has a Common screw but is not used. What did they use for common? at the contactor.
