The dog ate our copper pipe insulation

Today, I realized that the neighbor's dog ate the foam insulation wrapped around the copper pipes of our mini split A/C.

Upon visual inspection, I believe the copper pipes are fine. I haven't fired it up yet to see if there is any leakage.

What do I need to do make sure everything is ok? Should I fire it up and see if it leaks? Is there special insulation that I should add? Does it even need insulation?

The lines are always pressurized with refrigerant so if the pipe was damaged the refrigerant is already gone.

Go ahead and turn it on provided it's at least 65f outside, see if it still cools.

If it works fine just replace the insulation - you can find it at homes depot, lowes, etc.

When you re-insulate the pipes wrap them in chicken wire fencing. Most animals don't like chewing on metal so it will deter critters in the future.
