Exclamation Older Kenmore A/C compressor not turning on

I have an older Kenmore AC model 253.78125890 (Made by Frigidaire for Kenmore) I believe it is a 12,000 BTU unit.

The compressor is not turning on only the fan is running and the thermostat is clicking so I believe it is good but I am not 100% sure about that. The fan also turns off when the thermostat is turned down on power save but no compressor so thus no cold air.

Is there a capacitor that could be bad? I don't really have the money to buy a unit of that size but I am handy and I can replace a capacitor if that would get it working again

Thanks

Kenmore by Gibson (Frigidaire)

Usually if it's a bad cap you'll hear the compressor humming loudly for some seconds before it shuts down on thermal overload. I couldn't find the wiring diagram for you. I would start by removing the unit and the cover. Check for voltage on the compressor power line. There may be a relay for the compressor. There should be a wiring diagram on the inside cover.

Yes.... so you need to trace the wiring.
That uses an overload type starter like a refrigerator uses and that could be bad.
It's attached to the side of the compressor.
