R410A Evap Coil with R-22 Compressor?

I had my house restored from a fire. After a year back in the house, I see that the HVAC guy that did the work for the contractor used a R410A evaporator coil with an existing R-22 compressor. I am assuming that he filled the system with R-22 or the compressor probably would have burned up, right? (He has not yet returned my call....) My question is that if he did use R-22, will that damage the R410A evaporator coil? Or would there be other adverse effects. (less efficient cooling?)

It will work, but the metering device will have to be for R22.
