How many tons is my old comfort aire cental air conditoner?

The model number is QCE28-1
the serial number is 28804 133696

ive looked on the internet and cant find anything definite.

a parts supplier shows it might be a 2 and 1/2 ton unit.

thoughts?

Sorry..... that doesn't look like a complete model number.
Couldn't find any info. Could possible be too old to be in the internet repair folders.
The manufacture date appears to be July 1980

Thatvwas the entire model number on the stamped label.

I think it's a 28000 btu air conditioner.

wow 1980! Thought it was about 25 years old. They sure dont build them like theynjsed too.

thanks for looking it up for me.

28804
Someone PM'ed me that the age I posted was incorrect. Usually with the dual serial numbers it's the first four digits. So that would be the 28th week of 1980. That is the way it is with many companies.

The other method is 2 (February) of 1988.

Either way it's don't a great job! Apparently the new air conditioners are expected to last about 12 years.

Is this so you can buy a replacement?
If so, the old tonnage doesn’t matter much. A load calculation is needed to determine sizing for a replacement.

Where did you hear that? I would be pretty disappointed if a new system lasted only 12 years and would expect no less than 15 to 20 years or more.

The

A couple of DEALERS and several websites have said the new air conditioners typically last about 12 years. Ssems short to me but that is what several sources have said.

yes it to replace an old air conditioner........ the current air conditikner cools the house well, at least before the lineset froze.

why cant I just buy the same size/output unit?
