Thermostat wont shut off when it reaches set temperature.

The control module is a White-Rodgers 1F86-244.

If I set the temp to 74, sometimes the thermostat will not shut off, and will keep cooling until I turn it off... it will go down into the 60's if I dont notice it.

I've tried resetting the module (hold up/down, and move selector to heat)... sometimes this fixes it, but after a few days it will start acting up again.

I imagine I need to replace the control module, but before I did, I wanted to run it past you guys to see if there is anything else that might be causing it.

The control module is probably 10-15 years old, and hasn't had problems until a few weeks ago.

If you can turn off the thermostat and the indoor fan as well as the outdoor unit turn off it would point to a thermostat problem.

It sounds like it is time for a new thermostat.

I agree. The problem you are describing is a sticking relay inside the thermostat.
