Huge amounts of water dumping on outdoor unit?
My house is a little unusual. It has no gutters, instead the roof overhangs about 2 feet all the way around. There is gravel on the ground at the line where the water dumps off. During a heavy rain, this can be an enormous amount of water sheeting off the roof.
My heat pump outdoor unit is mounted such that this sheet of water hits it directly in the middle. More water than if I turned the hose on it!
Is this a bad thing? Heat pump seems to be in good condition after having been there a few years. Should I try to redirect the water somehow so it doesn't totally drench the machine every time it rains? I know they are meant to be rained on but this is a bit extreme...

It's not great to have large amounts of water pouring on the heat pump. You can put a short section of gutter over the heat pump or a diverter on the roof.

Little late now, but it was installed wrong.
It should have been installed out beyond the drip line.
