A/C compressor tries to start but does not
ForestAir 10000 btu vertical.
I turn the unit on, after couple minutes, the fan slows down a bit and compressor tries to start but it does not.
Is the compressor dead.

When servicing appliances it's very helpful to know the model number.
Your compressor may just need a capacitor replacement.

I take it that this is a window unit? I'm unfamiliar with ForestAir, but it sounds like a store brand. As Pete said, it might just be a capacitor. Replacing the cap is not difficult, but might be beyond a DIYer with limited experience? It's like working on a refrigerator. The problem, as least where I live, is that most a/c techs don't like to to bother with window units - their charges might approach the cost of a new unit? Now, if you can remove the unit and cart it into an a/c serviceman, that might be an option. Good luck.
