Goodman Furnace not working -Error 88
Hello,
I have a Goodman GMVC95 furnace. This morning I noticed my house was cold and my thermostat has a very dim almost blank display. I figured I just needed to replace the batteries in them. I replace the batteries and set the thermostat to heat. The heat would not come on. I went to look at my furnace and and the led is displaying a code of 88 for a few seconds then it immediately changes to OP for a few seconds. I then then hear a click and the display will go blank for a few seconds before it repeats the seconds. This repeats over and over again. If I jump the red and white wire I get nothing other than than the green heartbeat LED and the display that flashes between 88 and OP. If I jump the Red and the green I will hear a relay click and the blower motor will run for a few seconds and the it appears that the system resets and does this same cycle over and over again. The induction fan never attempts to run or make an noises. Any idea's what the 88 error code is pointing to or how I should go about troubleshooting this further?
Thanks,
William

88 is not a trouble code. It's the board resetting. The OP is something to do with data on the board.
I haven't personally come across a furnace with this problem but it appears to be a board problem.
There are a number of threads here on that furnace. One is in the link.
There are diagnostic routines in the manuals.

Pete, Thanks for the clarification on the the 88 Error code. That makes a lot of sense. I think I read a couple of years ago when I had another issue with this unit that OP was the code of operational meaning the system was working as intended.
I saw other thread you linked me to and it looks like the same problem I am having. Unfortunately there was never a resolution posted for that issue. I have PMed the original poster to see if he can share how he got it fixed. I hope they respond. It looks like I can get a system board for the unit for about $100. That may be a good place to start but I do not like to throw parts at something unless I have to.
Thanks,
William
