4-Wire to 5-Wire Condenser Fan: Where does BRN/WHT wire go?
Replacing an Emerson K55HXDPG-7002 four wire condenser fan motor with a Dayton 3LU93 5-wire condenser fan and I don’t know what to do with the fifth wire. Emerson has RED & BLACK lines to the Defrost Control PCA and BROWN (Fan) & PURPLE (Common) to the dual run capacitor. Where does the Brown/White motor wire connect? I tried with this wire isolated/capped, but the fan would not spin up.
Additional Info: This is a TRANE 6H4030B100A0 with a dual run capacitor and a compressor start capacitor. The original dual run cap was a 45/15 MFD, 440V and I have changed to match the new fan to a 45/5 MFD, 370V (Dayton 2MEF4).
Many time the brown/white wire is the same as one of the line wires.
If that is the case..... it will be shown on the wiring diagram.
That motor does not show a common connection.
It shows that the cap must connect to brown and brown/white.
You could leave your old cap in place for the compressor and use the new cap for the fan.
Thanks for the info. So, both browns to the FAN terminal on the new Cap? Is the voltage rating for the dual cap an issue; why would I use both dual caps? That would be three caps now in the unit.
You said you replaced your original dual cap with a new one.
In order to use the new one for fan only..... you connect to C and FAN.
The HERM terminal remains un-used.
Then you'd use the original one to run just HERM. No connection on FAN.
Ok...... your fan wants to see 240v on the purple and black wires or purple and red wires depending on speed wanted. Purple and black is low speed. Purple and red is high speed.
You do not use red and black. Only one is used.
I don't know if your defrost board is just a switch for the fan or it provides one of the legs.
Have a Miller package system in a mobile home. When either heat or ac is requested, neither come on but blower fan comes on. Can feel air at registers. When ac is requested, outside fan does not come on.
capacitor or relay???

I have a Lennox CBA27UHE-042 indoor air handler. When the AC is running the fan continually blows fast/slow/fast/slow until the desired temp is reached & the unit turns off. The fast/slow cycle is best described as like trying to start a car on a very cold winter morning with the engine trying to turn over. You can feel the difference in the amount of air being pushed through the vents, normal amount of air then not much then normal then not much & so on. The fast slow cycle is each a few seconds long. This cycle is non stop as I said above until the requested temp is met. When the panel that accesses the fan was removed the issue all but goes away but as soon as the panel is put back in place the issue starts again. Any ideas on what might be going on?
