I have 2 Goodman 3 ton unit in my house. I came home from work today and it was warm downstairs but cool upstairs. I feel the air coming out of the vents and and it's hot I go check the condensor outside and it's actually cold coming out of it. I feel the lines on the handler in my laundry room and the are hot. This thing is cooling outside and heating inside. The only thing that has changed was switching to a honeywell lyric thermostat a week ago but there were no issue then.
I have checked the wiring, switched back to the old thermostat and check the voltages at the thermostat and inside the handler. 24 volts is present and when I turn the system on 24v o ly goes to the fan and cool like it should.
I've dealt with a few ac issues in the past but never a system working in reverse so I'm completely lost
It sounds like you need to verify that your new thermostat is configured for heat pump operation.
If the outdoor unit is a Goodman then the O/B terminal needs to be configured for O at the stat.
The reversing valve wire needs to be connected to it as well.
Not the easiest to see but this Is how it was wired when originally installed and how I wired it back after going back to the original thermostat. While it would still start it was doing the same thing but after a few more attempts at it I started to hear the blower motor hum and checked that to find the blower motor cap failed and was swollen.
I'll have that in tomorrow when it gets delivered. Thankfully it's actually cool in Florida right now
I didn't know this unit even had a heat pump function as I have the electric heater in the air handler. Makes me wonder if the control board may be having an issue

Maybe the one in the condensor. Thermostat is wired correctly and functioning but when set to cool there is only power going to fan and cool on the thermostat as it should but the unit is still pumping heat in. I've checked the heater coils inside and they are off. Condensor is running but pumping heat.
You have a heat pump. The thermostat needs to be programmed for O operation so that there is 24v on the orange reversing wire valve. If the reversing valve doesn't get power.... the unit will be in heat mode.
Definitely what it is then. I just started the unit in cool and there 12 24v on cool but nothing on orange. I jumped 24v to oranf and hear the click and freon flowing Pipes cooled as normal. This original thermostat I don't see any setting in the manual to change how it operates. It also worked with it before I swapped them. It's a honeywell focus pro 6000
Well I just pulled the wire out of the wall since that was simple to do on this setup and the orange wire was broken.... Guess that happened in the switch lol. Tomorrow after I get the new start cap for the blower motor I'll switch back to the honeywell lyric. I'll just have to figure out how to do the setup you listed on that one but as of now there is now 24v on orange and the system is cooling
I'm sure many of you have seen my many many threads on that Mitsubishi Electric Mini-Split?

Well they finally got it fixed!
Well I have only been complaining for what two years!!!!
Anyway back in August it was not doing much of anything (other then wasting electricity that I pay for)
So they sent a real tech and as I was saying all along it was low on refrigerant (R-410A) it had practically nothing in there! The fittings (all 4) were only hand tightened so it leaked out!
Anyway is checking the pressure the proper way to charge it? As that is all the tech did the older dial gauges and a pink container of R-410A. At the time the outside was around 83° F as soon as he put it in the air started getting a lot colder even colder then when it was installed by the idiots in mid 2017!
I thought they also had to go by Sub-cool and Super-heat and other measurements of then pressures?

Hi,
At my home the outside AC unit doesn't turn ON and the Air handler (inside unit) turns ON and the temperature goes way beyond the set temperature. Thermostat is set at 78 degrees and the actual temperature in home goes upwards over 80 and it shows on thermostat too. When I trip the AC and Air Handler's in the electric circuit breaker then both AC outside unit and Air handler turn's ON and the temperature comes down to the set 78 degrees. Can someone please let me know what could be the issue. This is happening almost every day.
Thanks,
Ven
