heat pump & emergency heat

heat pump & emergency heat

in Texas, we are having below freezing temp for next a few days with freezing rain and snow. with heat pumps, do we need to use emergency heat to avoid damage to outside unit?

Most heat pumps will work adequately down to 30f.
If the system is getting heavily iced you can switch over to E (emergency) heat which is the electric reheats without the heat pump running.
