Why have my last two window air conditioners been making loud sounds?

I've had three window air conditioners in my bedroom. There is a slot in the wall for the air conditioner; that is where my air conditioner is located. The last two of the three air conditioners had a consistent sound when I first got them. However, they quickly began making noise. The first made noise four days after installation; the second after a week. Specifically, it is noisy during the cooling cycle. I wouldn't mind this noise if it were consistent. However, the noise cycles throughout the entire night, which I don't like when I'm sleeping.

I know that the noise is the cooling cycles. Does anyone have an idea of why the air conditioners are making on and off noise now, but not when I first got them? Is it bad luck? I should note that the air conditioner in my living room is far more consistent in the noise that it makes. Also, the first AC I had in my bedroom was a mechanical one, which was also more consistent in the noise that it made.

Just so that we understand the issue. You have tried three different window A/C's in the thru the wall sleeve and all have been noisy.

Is that correct ?
Have you measured the sleeve and tried to find one that fit that properly ?

 

How is the AC unit attached to the sleeve?

The first air conditioner I had didn't make on-and-off noises, my last two have done so. Unfortunately, I no longer have the first air conditioner. I find it interesting that the last two air conditioners were quiet when I first got them, but both began making on-and-off noises a week after installation. I measured the sleeve before getting the air-conditioners and there was more than enough room for both of them. I used the hardware that came with the air-conditioner to install it, including the side panels. The sleeve for the air-conditioner was pre-installed before I moved in. I took a video of my current AC making on-and-off noise. Unfortunately, it won't let me upload a video or even audio to the forum post. Is there a different way I could upload the video or audio, or send it to posters?
