how to cool one bedroom

One bedroom is small with only one window within a shaft like area. The room has a ceiling fan and the house has HVAC. I am constantly fighting thermostat wars with my 16 year old son who says his room is too hot. I looked at portable air conditioners on Consumer Reports and they aren't highly recommended. Any suggestions how to get one room cooler?

Not sure what your picture is showing us.
Not cool enough on the second floor is an extremely popular problem.

A window unit would help.
A two line vent stand alone A/C would help.
Better insulation in the attic would help.

There are many ways to go.

One problem I've seen is a lack of return for the air capacity when the door is shut. You can do a test by leaving the door open when the AC is running and see if that helps.

I tried portable AC units for our MBR. I threw both of them away and had a mini split installed.. You might try an over the sill, low profile window unit. I've never owned one but it might work for you.

Thanks, good ideas. We have new insulation in the attic and it's a one story house. The rooms cools off when the air conditioner is on but my son still complains it's not cool enough. I will check out an over the sill, low profile window unit.
