Moving air handler from attic to garage

12 y/o system has bad TXV. I want to have new unit put next to the other unit in the garage. It looks like there is clearance as there is a closet on the other side.

Return would be just inside the closet. Is there any issues with this behind this louvered door? Otherwise, I would need to get new doors and redo the drywall. It would take 14 inches inside of closet.

Any input is appreciated.

Your two pics are visible in your post.

12 years is not very old. Have you considered having the TXV replaced ?

Not sure I'm following but if the return on the new unit is inside a closet then you need a louvered door.

Thanks PJmax;

The old unit, attic mount, has broken many times with massive air leaks that I am constantly fixing due to a tight/poor installation. At this stage, In South Florida, many of these units have a max life of 10 - 15 years. I researched how to properly retrofit a closet and think I am going to go that way, thanks for the assist.
