Ruud Cabinet Screws

Did the yearly coil cleaning on the condenser of my sister's 2 1/2 ton AC unit. Some of the screws are not really tightening up anymore after 25 yrs service. The screw head is 5/16", is there a standard oversize screw to use in that case? Size?

I keep a container of the std #10 x 3/8" hex washer head sheet metal A point screws and then a container of #12 x 3/8" A point hex washer head screws in my tool box for the holes that get loose. No matter how careful you are some just seem to strip out.... If you have a Fastenal store close by they will have anything you want most of the time.

The diameter of the part of the screw containing the threads is more important than the head diameter for a replacement screw. Is the old screw thread a machine thread or sheet metal?

They're sheet metal. I'll get a couple packs of the #12's next time I'm at HD. Thanks!
