New Cracks in Block foundation walls
I moved into a 40 year old brick ranch type house in Tennessee about 4 months ago. We are in a drought stricken area, but the basement stayed very, very damp and we put in a high volume dehumidifier about 30 days ago. It seems we are now getting stairstep cracks in the foundation walls.
The first was in a corner and involved the top 4 concrete blocks on each wall. It looks like they have moved about 1/2 inch toward the outside. I know they are new as the walls had been recently painted and there is no paint in the cracks.
Now two more have appeared on another wall, these two stairstep from the top almost to the concrete floor. So far I don't see any cracking on the brick veneer.
Any thoughts on this one ?
