Egress Windows
My husband and I are researching finishing our basement to a rec/family room. In researching code for our state (Michigan) the code now states that any habitable space in a basement needs an egress window (not just bedrooms).
I would like to comply with this, (as well as for safety reasons) however, I can't seem to find any contractors which do this. We currently have the standard basement windows.
Can anyone point us in a direction of where to look for contractors who do this type of work, and what we should expect to pay for this service. We are planning on doing the rest of the finishing ourselves, but this seems like too big a job to do ourselves.
Any input would be appreciated!

you may need two contractors
You may need two contractors - one to cut the opening and one to install the windows. If "foundation contractors" doesn't give a result, look in the yp for concrete contractors that do concrete cutting (sawing).

I was wondering if you called a window company (one who does glass block windows for instance) if they could do it or refer you to someone who does. Worst case, it might have to be a special order window. Keep in touch as to what you found out, I'm curious to know.

Egress Windows
In my case, a foundation contractor wanted LOTS of money. Guys recommended by the window store did not want the job. I ended up making a few calls and did manage to find a general contractor who did an excellent, reasonably priced job. He replaced an existing slider (broken seal). Then he cut and installed a new slider, glass block and an egress window.
