I'm in a 11 year old house which I lived in for 4 years. I never had water in the basement before and as far as I know it never happened before I purchased the house. However, recently a couple of days after some torrential rain, I had water along the wall in the finished part of the basement, which at some point seeped out to an 8 X 10 area. I had the gutters inspected and cleaned and there was some debris there. I also had a waterproofing company do an inspection. I'm told that there must be a crack in the foundation although he was unable to find it because the foundation on that side of the house is underground. They also said that the gutters couldn't have caused this problem-----that when gutters overflow the water would get in the house immediately and not 2 days later as was the case. Is it possible that clogged gutters could send water in the basement two days after the rain has ended?

I have a large attic that i want to make into 2 bedrooms, i will be making the stairs to go up to the rooms. My first question is the ceiling above the living room is 13 x 26 with 2 x 6 used. Will that be strong enough to support a bedroom or can i make some sort of subfloor. One other question on the stairs is there some sort of calculaton on how many steps per feet the stairs will be going up. Thanks Mike
