wet basement
Help, please. My 55 year old slab basement is taking in water. I recently laid wall to wall carpet and sheetrocked all the walls. I pulled the carpet off the floor on the side that took on water. Okay for now . But, how do I go about platying detective and determining where the water is coming from so that THEN I can effect a solution? first steps first I suppose. any Dick Tracy's out there?

1. Determine the wall (or walls) where the water is seeping in.
2. Walk aroung the outside of your house to where the culprit wall is, & look around. The ground s/b sloping away from the house. Also, how far do the gutters drain away from the house? Finally, do you have uncovered basement windows that allow the rain water to fill up in the window wells? If so, that water has to drain somewhere, & there's only one direction it can go.....d..o..w..n.
