moisture in attic
#1

I have been insulating my attic roof in preparation for a remodeling job. There are spacers, and r-19 w/kraft face. There seems to be a lot of moisture coming off of the insulation. Could this be from condensation? The insulation was put up when the outside temp was about 10. Noticed the moisture when the temp hit 30. Don't belive there is a leak in the roof. There are roof vents, but do I need more? What should my next move be?

It seems like your moisture is coming from within. You say you have attic vents, but do you have an attic fan ? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. The moisture comes from a warm inside and cold outside. I would definetly have an attic fan with a therostat on it, and when the attic temp reahces 50 degrees, the fan comes on. Thus keeping your attic cooler. Do you have insulation in your ceiling joists ? You should have faced insulation there also. Good Luck

[URL=http://www.certainteed.com/pro/proframe/pro_programs.html?Is a hyperlink to a good web site on attic ventilation. Your problem maybe in placing the insulation in contact with the roof. You can get a styrofoam vent that keeps the insulation off of the roof sheathing (it looks like a long tray)
